he's gone

It has now been a year since our Pa passed away. It still isn't real. We miss his sweaty shirts, holy jeans, strong hands and kind ways...and I would like to have something happy and uplifting to say here, but I thought I would be honest instead.

He's Gone

They say that time will ease the pain,
That missing you won’t feel the same.
But, they’re all wrong, because as time goes on,
It gets more painful that you’re gone.

You were sanity in a world of insane.
Now every man resembles your frame,
Until they walk closer and it’s not you.
It’s still hard to believe that this is true.

My mind spins wishing you were here again,
That this cruel joke would finally just end.
But the days that pass remind me that these feelings will last,
You’re not coming back.
The softened blow that your presence would lend,
Sadly had to come to an end.

Nothing can take the fact away
that you won’t spend your days watching my kids play.
They won’t know you like they should,
a role model to show them the value in good.
As time passes, life without you only seems to get harder,
But what your life taught us has made us all stronger.

It gets more painful that you’re gone.
